Alastair Thomson was born in February 1929 in Glasgow. He trained at the Glasgow School of Art and he held his first solo exhibition in the Langside Gallery in Glasgow in 1985 followed by three others in the Torrance (Edinburgh), Athol and J.D Galleries in Glasgow. Alastair also exhibited internationally in selected exhibitions including one in Hong Kong.
In 1994 he was appointed director of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, as well as being a regular exhibitor. Alastair Thomson painted landscapes, residences, bars and restaurant interiors with breath taking and incredible attention to detail. A painting by him depicting Scotland’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery sold for £12,000 in aid of the Maggie’s Centre Charity. His work is held in corporate and private collections in the UK and internationally.
