Artist's Biography & Works For Sale

Antoine Bouvard was born in St. Jean-de-Bournay in L’Isere in the late 19th century. He trained as an architect and studied art and architecture under Constance-Dufeus at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.

He became the Director of Architectural Services for the Seine and was responsible for the construction in Paris of the Bourse du Travail and also of the Boulevard Morland. On a painting trip to Venice he met the unique and well noted artist Felix Ziem who would greatly influence his works.

Bouvard became one of the most prolific painters of the Venetian genre. His works are broad and confidently painted, capturing all the atmosphere and charm of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. He exhibited throughout France and Italy as well as in many provincial European galleries during his own lifetime. His popularity has continued to the present day, placing him amongst the most recognized and respected painters of Venetian subjects. Antoine Bouvard is known to have signed with the pseudonym, Marc Aldine.
