Fritz Wagner was born in Munich on 15th May, 1896, and died there on 3rd April, 1939. He was a pupil of Carl Roth and Robert Seitz in Munich. He also studied Art at the Academie de la Brera de Milan.
He specialised in depictions of the common man in 19th century Germany but he also painted various other subjects including landscapes, birds and views of Chiemsee, a Lake near Munich. His skilfully formed figures appear in period costume enjoying leisurely activities such as drinking good vintage wine, playing card games or just engaging in general discussion.
He died in 1939 at an early age.
