Artist's Biography & Works For Sale
Gilbert Scott Wright was born in Headingley near Leeds, into a family with a rich artistic tradition. His brother was George Wright, a well noted artist. Gilbert was self-taught but no doubt acquired some guidance and advice from his older brother with whom he worked with for a length of time.
Gilbert painted hunting, racing and polo scenes, but it is his coaching scenes, often with figures in period costume and strong attention to detail that made his work popular with collectors and equine enthusiasts During the 1930’s, Gilbert’s paintings were used by the Princess Royal for her Christmas cards and it was around this time that he also exhibited at the Royal Academy.
