Henry Stacy Marks was born in London in 1829. He was an English artist who mainly painted Shakespearean and medieval themes, although he is also known for ornithological subjects. He was twice married, firstly to Helen Drysdale and then to Mary Kempe. A self portrait of him dating from 1882 hangs in the Aberdeen Art Gallery. He died in London in 1898.
