Jeannie Petyarre was born in 1956 in Central Australia in the Utopian region to a family of well-known Aboriginal artists. She began painting the family’s dreamings under the encouragement of her famous aunt Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Her work is characterised by vibrant designs celebrating the spirit of the yam plant. Petyarre paintings have been exhibited in numerous countries including Dubai, Turkey, Italy and the USA and can also be found in the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, The Holmes a Court Collection, Perth and Mem Aziz Private Collection, Melbourne.
