Rish Gordon was born in Carlisle England in 1935. She was educated at Kenya High School, Nairobi and in 1957, after completing a four year diploma course at Edinburgh College of Art undertook engraving for Whitefriars Glass, London. She moved to Norway in 1958 where she worked in the design office of the Hadelands Glassworks before her marriage to Alasdair in the same year and the setting up of their engraving workshop in Australia.
Rish has gained considerable acclaim in her glass engraving. She has refined a sandblasting technique which is very much her own and is recognised worldwide. Her themes often include animals, or birds inspired by her love of nature, extensive travelling and childhood in Africa. Apart from being an exceptional engraver, she is also an accomplished watercolour painter of wildlife. She has exhibited in numerous European cities including Scotland and Paris and around the rest of the world.
Rish has engraved presentation pieces for HRH Prince Phillip, Bill Clinton and for former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke. She is also represented in the National Gallery in Australia’s capital city Canberra
