Artist's Biography & Works For Sale
Théodore Gérard was born in Ghent to a family of decorative painters in 1829. He studied at the Ghent Academy before moving to Brussels in 1863, where he became an extremely successful engraver and painter of genre scenes.
Gerard's works were exhibited in London, Brussels, Antwerp, France and other European cities as well as Australia. His paintings were awarded medals in Philadelphia 1870, London 1871, Vienna 1873 and Brussels 1875. Gérard was made a professor at the Belgian National School of Art and the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts.
His work is represented in the Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Ghent, the Coutrai Museum and the Koninlijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp.
