Artist's Biography & Works For Sale

Herbert William Weekes was born into a family of artists. He was the youngest of five children. His father was the well regarded sculptor and Royal Academician Henry Weekes Snr (1807-1877). Among his other artistic siblings were Henry Weekes (Flor. 1850-1884) and Frederick Weekes (1833-1920).

Weekes along with painters like Charles Hunt (1803-1877), Walter Hunt (1861-1941) and Edgar Hunt (1876-1953) but to name a few, were amongst the most well received farmyard animal painters of their time. The paintings are rendered in great detail and the animal subjects are set in often humorous or highly sentimental contexts.

During his life time, Weekes exhibited at the Royal Academy, The Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters and many others and were signed with either ‘Weekes’, ‘WW’, ‘William Weekes’, ‘W. Weekes’, ‘Herbert William Weekes’, ‘H.W. Weeks’ or H. Weekes. His works today are in collections world-wide both public and private.
